“Cows on the Coast” – DBnB for Moreton Bay

This project is funded through the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country initiative and will run from January 2011 to September 2013. The project will improve soil and nutrient management practices on dairy farms located within high priority Moreton Bay catchments including the Logan-Albert, Bremer and Lockyer catchments. Groups of dairy farmers will be engaged in the Dairying Better 'n Better for Tomorrow program and supported to:
·          Improve their knowledge and skills in soil and nutrient management;
·          Identify high risk practices and soils on their farms;
·          Develop Soil and Nutrient Management Plans;
·          Implement best management practices across their farms.

Farmers will be assisted to assess their current soil and nutrient management practices, identify high risk practices and to map farm soils with the highest risk of hillslope erosion and nutrient loss. A soil management specialist will conduct field days and workshops with groups of farmers to demonstrate the most appropriate soil and nutrient management systems and practices for dairy farms in the Logan-Albert, Bremer and Lockyer Catchments. Farmers will be assisted to develop Soil and Nutrient Management Plans to improve practices. Industry Best Management Practices will be promoted and supported by the project. These practices and system changes will be eligible for financial incentives through a devolved grant.
