Overview - DFWP
 
Dairy & Fodder Water for Profit program is designed to assist dairy farmers and commercial fodder producers* in Queensland irrigation regions to implement improved irrigation management and water reuse practices resulting in water use efficiency improvements.
 
Funding for the program has been provided by the Queensland Government through the Department of Environment and Resource Management and Innovation and Irrigation Australia Ltd support is provided by the Department of Employment, Economic Development.
 
This program builds on the success of the past DFWP programs, which have been delivered over the last 10 years and provides technical assistance and advice to farmers, assisting dairy and fodder producers to implement new technologies to achieve water use efficiency and productivity gains, through providing more than $3.4 million worth of financial assistance.
 
This round of the program commenced in March 2010 and will be open til December 2012. The program will assist dairy and fodder producers in irrigation areas across Queensland.
 
The Dairy and Fodder Water Use for Profit program, managed by the QDO, addresses better on-farm management of irrigation and water reuse management systems. Key components to the program include:
 
·          Series of Workshops & Farm Walks covering relevant issues,
·          Financial assistance for On Farm System Assessments
·          Financial Assistance Scheme for on-farm irrigation or water reuse management works
·          Financial assistance for Irrigation Scheduling Equipment Scheme

*Commercial fodder producers are defined as a fodder producer that grows and sells more than $100,000 of fodder or utilising more than 100ML of irrigation water annually to grow fodder which is sold for animal consumption.
