The Darling Downs YDN is hosting an on-farm discussion and farm walk focussing on HEIFER REARING with Dr. Carl Hockey. Heifers present a significant investment on dairy farms.
WHEN: November 7 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
WHERE: Venue TBC, Kenilworth, QLD
At the point of calving, it is estimated that a heifer has cost the dairy farm owner between $1300 and $1500. Therefore, for every 100 heifers raised on a farm, it has cost the enterprise $130,000 to $150,000. To receive a return on this significant investment, heifers must get in calf quickly, calve without difficulty, produce well and get back in calf easily. To achieve good productivity must be well grown from day one.
Come along and join the DD YDN for an interactive farm-walk, focussing on the Dairy Australia ‘Heifers on Target’ recommendations. Bring along any questions or issues you’d like answered and discussion will be focussed around areas of interest to the group.
The morning discussion and farm walk will be followed by lunch.
